Partnership for Central Kentucky Airline Service Travel Bank
New Program Announced to Assist with Airline Recruitment to EKX Airport; Promotes Usage of Potential New Service and Demonstrates Widespread Regional Support

The Elizabethtown Airport Board today announced the development of the Partnership for Central Kentucky Airline Service Travel Bank (Travel Bank). The Travel Bank is a strategy which is designed to provide a revenue guarantee to the first airline which confirms its intent to provide scheduled passenger airline service to the Elizabethtown Regional Airport (EKX).

“Revenue guarantee programs are an important part of any community’s strategy to develop new passenger airline service,” said Luke Schmidt, President of L.B. Schmidt & Associates, LLC, and consultant to the Elizabethtown Airport Board. “In fact, it is a requirement that has worked successfully in varying forms across the country.”

EKX Airport Concept Terminal Design Unveiled

The Elizabethtown Airport Board today unveiled its concept design for a new passenger airline terminal at the Elizabethtown Regional Airport (EKX).

Joe Yates, Chairman of the Elizabethtown Airport Board, stated that the effort to restore passenger airline service at EKX is well underway and substantial support for the project has been lined up through the new Partnership for Central Kentucky Airline Service. One of the key issues which needs to be addressed is that of developing a new passenger terminal at the Addington Field airport.

EKX Airport Web Site Launched

The Elizabethtown Airport Board today announced the development of its new Web site. The new Web site has been officially launched and can be visited at the following URL address: www.ekxairport.com

Joe Yates, Chairman of the Elizabethtown Airport Board, stated that the Web site has two primary objectives: to promote the airport and the services that it currently offers, along with providing updated information on efforts to restore passenger airline service at the field.

Regional Support Growing for New Airline Service at EKX

to Seek Commercial Airline Service

The Elizabethtown Airport Board today announced its intent to restore commercial airline service to Addington Field.  Such service would be the first at the airport since 1987 when both Piedmont Airlines and Delta Air Lines served the field with commuter flights to Dayton and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky, respectively.

Joe Yates, Chairman of the Elizabethtown Airport Board stated that the Board decided to take this action as the result of numerous inquiries from area residents and businesses requesting that service be restored to the airport.

Innovative airline incentive

If there is any reward for creative thinking, the Elizabethtown Airport Board's efforts to bring commuter air service to this growing community and its 23 neighboring counties surely will succeed.

Faced with the grim prospect of depending on government, corporate or individual altruism — at a time of declining revenues and profits — to come up with financial incentives to persuade a commuter airline to do business here, the board and consultant Luke B. Schmidt developed what seems to be a win-win-win solution. Win for the community, win for an airline, win for local businesses, organizations and individuals who depend on air travel.

ELIZABETHTOWN—The Elizabethtown Airport Board on Monday announced a new initiative in an ongoing effort to entice a commuter air service to town.

Those who would fly out of Elizabethtown Regional Airport can help bring an airline here by pledging money to the Partnership for Central Kentucky Airline Service Travel Bank. If a carrier commits, donors will get their contributions back through ticket purchase reimbursements.

Battery factory charges airline push

ELIZABETHTOWN—Those pushing for commuter flights at the local airport have received another carrot to help lure an airline here.

Gov. Steve Beshear last week announced that a hybrid and electric vehicle battery plant may locate in nearby Glendale.

“It’s a huge, huge project,” Airport Board consultant Luke B. Schmidt said. “It just lends itself to air travel.”

Commuter flight conquest?

ELIZABETHTOWN—Commuter flight proponents last week unveiled the concept design for an ultramodern passenger terminal – one that may help lure an airline to the Elizabethtown Regional Airport at Addington Field.

The environmentally friendly proposal, which incorporates glass walls to let in natural light, is visually striking and would make a good impression on travelers, supporters said.

"The new concept terminal design provides a dramatic portal to the entire region," project consultant Luke Schmidt said in a news release.
